Mumbai and back to London

Arrived in Mumbai on Monday afternoon. Very busy city as well although the pollution is not that bad here because of the ocean which cleans the air. My hotel booking was a bit of a fiasco so I ended in a very small hotel room, more like a prison cell, near the main train station. I nealy froze to death as their idea of luxury is the air conditionning full blast! Anyway it was only for a night and an half so I wasn't too choosy. Spent all day Tuesday walking around the city, doing last minute shopping and then I took a long walk along the sea front at sunset. Went to bed quite early as I had to get up at 4.00 in the morning to be at the airport at 5.00. The journey back went very smoothly, the 2 planes (stop over at Bahrain) were almost empty so we had plenty of space to sleep.

Now I am back in London and already back at work...

Oooooops, I've forgot to go to see the Taj Mahal !!!!! Ha well, maybe another time. Just maybe.

Je suis arrivé à Mumbai lundi aprés midi. Encore une ville très encombrée quoique la pollution ici n'est pas trop mal à cause de l'océan qui nettoit l'air. Ma réservation d'hotel était un peu un fiasco donc je me suis retrouvé dans une toute petite chambre d'hotel façon cellule de prison à coté de la gare principale. Je suis presque mort congelé car leur idée du luxe est de mettre l'air conditionné à fond! Bref, ce n'était pas trop grave car c'était juste pour une nuit et demi donc je n'étais pas trop regardant. J'ai passé toute la journée de mardi à marcher dans la ville et à faire des achats de dernière minute et ensuite je me suis fais une longue balade le long du bord de mer au crépuscule. Je suis allé au lit de bonne heure car je devais me lever à 4H00 du mat pour être à l'aéroport à 5H00. Le voyage de retour s'est passé sans problèmes, les 2 avions (escale à Bahrain) étaient presque vides donc il y avait plein de place pour dormir.
Je suis maintenant de retour à Londres et déjà au boulot...

Oooooops, j'ai oublié d'aller voir le Taj Mahal !!!!!

Et bien, peut être une autre fois, juste peut être....

Sea, sun and .... food

Spent all day on the beach again... life is so hard.

Slight change of plan on Monday. I didn't realise that the plane for Mumbay actually start in Diu where I am. It is such a small island I didn't think that the plane would be from here. But yes. So I don't have to go through a long bus journey again on Monday to Porbandar. Just catch the plane from here which means that I might be able to have a last swim in the Arabian Sea on Monday morning before going to Mumbay....

J'ai passé toute la journée à la plage encore aujourd'hui .... La vie est si dure.
Petit changement de programme lundi. Je n'avais pas réalisé que l'avion pour Mumbai part en fait de Diu où je suis. C'est tellement une petite ile que je ne pensais pas que l'avion partirait d'ici. Mais si! Donc je n'ai pas à me taper encore un long trajet en bus lundi jusqu'à Porbandar. J'attrape juste l'avion ici ce qui veut dire que je vais peut être pouvoir me faire une dernière baignade dans la mer d'Arabie lundi matin avant de partir pour Mumbai ...!

Diu

I am now on Diu island in the south of Gujarat. I did go through Ahmedabad, another busy, crowded and polluted town. Just stayed one day to wait for the bus to come down here, nothing special. Diu is a former Portuguese colony and the island still has the Portuguese style. There are 3 big churches in Diu town, one used as a museum, another as an hospital and the third one still as a church. I have rented a small scooter so I can go around the island easily. At the far end of the island there is a wonderfull beach which is completely deserted. I have spent 2 hours there this morning swimming in the Arabian sea and sunbedding. Marvellous! Then I went on the "island resort" , Nagoa beach in the middle of Diu with developments, cafés and stalls to have some food.

The restaurants have good fish and seafood dishes so I am happy. I am staying in a little pension run by an Indo-portuguese family and the atmosphere is very nice. There are a few wild pigs running all over the island, you have to be careful when you drive!

I am staying here untill Monday morning when I have to go to Porbandar, the birth place of Ghandi, to catch a plane to go to Mumbai (No time to go all the way back up to Ahmedabad and down again on the other side). Mumbai Monday and Tuesday and then it is time to come back on Wednesday!

Je suis maintenant sur l'ile de Diu au sud du Gujarat. Je suis passé par Ahmedabad, une autre ville surpeuplée, grouillante et polluée. Je suis juste resté un jour histoire d'attendre le bus pour descendre ici, rien de spécial. Diu est une ancienne colonie portugaise et l'ile a toujours le style portugais. Il y a trois grosses églisesdans Diu city, une utilisée comme musée, une autre en hopital et la troisième est toujours utilisée en église. J'ai loué un petit scooter pour me déplacé plus facilement sur l'ile. Tout au bout de l'ile il y a une plage magnifique et complètement déserte. J'ai passé 2 heures ce matin à me baigner dans la mer d'Arabie et à me faire bronzer. Merveilleux ! Ensuite je suis allé mangé à la plage de Nagoa, le dévelopement "balnéaire" de l'ile avec des restos, cafés et des marchands de t-shirts.
Les restaurants ont tous du poisson et des fruits de mer donc je suis heureux! Je reste dans une petite pension tenue par une famille Indo-portugaise et l'ambiance est très sympa. Il y a pleins de cochons sauvages sur l'ile et il faut faire attention quand on conduit! Je reste sur Diu jusqu'à lundi matin lorsque je dois partir pour Porbandar, le lieu de naissance de Ghandi, pour prendre l'avion pour Mumbai (pas le temps de refaire tout le trajet jusqu'à Ahmedabad et redescendre de l'autre coté). Mumbai lundi et mardi et ensuite il sera temps de revenir mercredi....!
